Owls and Bats [A Natural History]

People have been fascinated by owls and bats for centuries. Their nocturnal lifestyle and mystery fascinate. An association with death and impending doom arose early on. Now these night owls are in the spotlight and enjoy protection, thanks to the efforts of owl and bat working groups.

This multifaceted natural history contains facts and assumptions from folk beliefs, ancient science, magic, myths and legends. At the same time, it is a cultural history that focuses on man's changing attitude towards nature. The published woodcuts date from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries
Johan Boussauw (1953) was trained as a graphic artist at the Hoger St-Lukasinstituut in Ghent, where he learned old printing techniques such as lithography, etching and woodcut. Previously published:
